2008-2014 Fiat 500 Pop

2008-2014 Fiat 500 Pop

Head off to mainland Europe and the UK, and you'll see the current shape Fiat 500 on every street corner, to say they're popular is an understatement. You might be thinking, well that's because they're a cheap, disposable vehicle, but to do so would be to underrate this little Italian pop star!

Until you drive a Fiat 500 for yourself, you're not going to understand its appeal. In Aus, we call micro cars like the Fiat 500 shopping trolley's, but pocket rocket or go-kart is a better fit for this Italian hero.

It's an ideal first car; they look cheeky cool and please the eye from any angle. They're also a cracking drive; they turn on a dime and possess a handling dynamic that defies their diminutive size. Driving in city traffic is a breeze, due to a highly responsive chassis and zippy engine response, especially if equipped with the 1.4-litre unit.

On paper their power outputs are nominal, but the drive experience is they always feel quicker than they are. It just adds to their charm, just like the crazy upright Italian driving position. It shouldn't work, but it does. You might think it's a city car only; but it will handle the odd highway cruise as well, a weekender for two is no trouble for our Fiat 500.

You can score a good one from $7,500 AUD. The hard part might be finding one; they haven't raced up the sales chart in Aus which is a shame as they're a great little car; well and truly worthy of a Wheeldeal.
