Perhaps Mercedes Benz motorsport division AMG's resolute ability to turn luxo-express sedans into a tyre frying muscle cars and there's none better than the 2008 - 2012 C63. Featuring a thumping 6.3litre naturally aspirated V8 putting out a heady 336kW and a chest-crushing 600Nm peak torque at 5000rpm.
All that mumbo is good for a 0 to 100km/h dash in just 4.5 seconds, that is seriously fast for a full-sized sedan, especially when you consider it tips the scales at 1730kg's.
You might be thinking isn't this a little high end for a wheel deals contender? Well, that depends, the W204 series C63 was an AUD $180,000 when new. Do your homework, and you could pick up a beautiful example with less than a 100K on the clock for under $60,000. Bargain!
You'll end up with an HSV hunter that is purposefully understated but has some real venom when you put your foot into it. It's also universally agreed that the C63 AMG has one of the best soundtracks out there, it pops, growls and belches like some wild thing, making the current car sound tame in comparison.
