2007-2009 Subaru Liberty GT Spec.B 4GEN

Your need is a family hauler and it has to be a station wagon, an estate if you're in the UK,. You can't afford new, but you want something that little bit special, something out of the ordinary. Look no further than the Subaru Liberty GT Spec.B 4GEN. Considered by Subaru fans as the last true sports wagon released by the company, their current sports wagon range is watered down in comparison.

If you budget between $10,000 to $20,000 AUD, should see you in the sweet spot of a well-loved example. Subaru is famous for its asymmetrical all-wheel drive, and it comes standard with the Subaru Liberty GT Spec.B 4GEN. Along with the bullet proof, 2.5-litre turbo-charged four cylinder boxer engine, as seen fitted to the Impreza WRX/WRX STi of the same period.

Stock the Liberty GT Spec.B 4GEN produces 184kW @ 6000rpm and 340Nm of torque @ 3600rpm. Healthy outputs for a mid-size wagon, and when you hit the twisty stuff, you can run rings around many a sports car, that supposedly are much harder hitters. What's not to like.

If you're so inclined, the aftermarket crowd is all over the Liberty GT Spec.B 4GEN when it comes to go fast parts. The drivetrain it uses is a remarkably robust unit and can easily handle power outputs of 400bhp and more without too much stress. You could end up with the ultimate sleeper.

A word to the wise, if the Liberty GT Spec.B 4GEN wagon you're checking out has aftermarket mods, make sure you have it checked out by a reliable Subaru specialist, it could save you a world of hurt.
